The College of Languages and Translation at the University of Jeddah, in cooperation with the Deanship of Student Affairs and under the patronage of Her Excellency the Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Shatha Jamil Taha Khasifan, celebrated World Arabic Language Day in Prince Abdul Majeed Hall with an event titled “Art Avenue.” This year’s theme, “The Arabic Language: A Language of Poetry and Art,” was highlighted through various sections of the program.
The first segment, “What Coffee Sometimes Means,” was a poetic tableau using the “moment crossing” technique from modern theater, bringing together poetic scenes in a single shot. This theatrical piece showcased the Arabic language’s versatility in expressing a unified theme through diverse artistic forms, including poetry and prose, reflecting the richness of Arabic literature.
The second segment, an operetta titled “Princesses of Tales,” was an interpretive reading of human symbolism. Through dialogues between characters, it demonstrated how language can deepen human understanding and embody ideals drawn from folklore, preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
The final segment, “The Hakawati Council,” revolved around the traditional storyteller, or Hakawati, sharing stories that captivated the gathered audience and illustrated the power of oral storytelling in Arabic culture
